Stochastic Background from Coalescences of NS-NS Binaries

چکیده
In this work, numerical simulations were used to investigate the gravitational stochastic background produced by coalescences occurring up to z ∼ 5 of double neutron star systems. The cosmic coalescence rate was derived from Monte Carlo methods using the probability distributions for forming a massive binary and to occur a coalescence in a given redshift. A truly continuous background is produced by events located only beyond the critical redshift z∗ = 0.23. Events occurring in the redshift interval 0.027 < z < 0.23 give origin to a “popcorn” noise, while those arising closer than z = 0.027 produce a shot noise. The gravitational density parameter Ωgw for the continuous background reaches a maximum around 670 Hz with an amplitude of 1.1×10, while the “popcorn” noise has an amplitude about one order of magnitude higher and the maximum occurs around a frequency of 1.2 kHz. The signal is below the sensitivity of the first generation of detectors but could be detectable by the future generation of ground based interferometers. Correlating two coincident advanced-LIGO detectors or two EGO interferometers, the expected S/N ratio are respectively 0.5 and 10. The Spatial Distribution of Coalescing Neutron Star Binaries: Implications for Gamma-Ray Bursts
We find the distribution of coalescence times, birthrates, spatial velocities, and subsequent radial offsets of coalescing neutron stars (NSs) in various galactic potentials accounting for large asymmetric kicks introduced during a supernovae. The birthrates of bound NS–NS binaries are quite sensitive to the magnitude of the kick velocities but are, nevertheless, similar (∼ 10 per Galaxy per My...
متن کاملGravitational Wave Background of Neutron Star-White Dwarf Binaries
We discuss the stochastic background of gravitational waves from ultra compact neutron star-white dwarf (NS-WD) binaries at cosmological distances. Under the assumption that accreting neutron stars and donor white dwarf stars form most of the low mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs), our calculation makes use of recent results related to the luminosity function determined from X-ray observations. Even a...
متن کاملThe Probability Distribution of Binary Pulsar Coalescence Rate Estimates. Ii. Neutron Star–white Dwarf Binaries
We consider the statistics of pulsar binaries with white dwarf companions (NS−WD). Using the statistical analysis method developed by Kim et al. (2003) we calculate the Galactic coalescence rate of NS−WD binaries due to gravitational-wave emission. We find that the most likely values for the total Galactic coalescence rate (Rtot) of NS−WD binaries lie in the range 0.2–10 Myr depending on differ...
متن کاملConstraining Population Synthesis Models via the Binary Neutron Star Population
The observed sample of double neutron-star (NS-NS) binaries presents a challenge to populationsynthesis models of compact object formation: the parameters entering into these models must be carefully chosen so as to match (i) the observed star formation rate and (ii) the formation rate of NS-NS binaries, which can be estimated from the observed sample and the selection effects related to the di...
متن کاملEvolution and Merging of Binaries with Compact Objects
In the light of recent observations in which short γ-ray bursts are interpreted as arising from black-hole(BH), neutron-star(NS) or NS-NS mergings we would like to review our research on the evolution of compact binaries, especially those containing NS’s. These were carried out with predictions for LIGO in mind, but are directly applicable to short γ-ray bursts in the interpretation above. Most...
